Pt Victoria is nestled on the west coast of Yorke Peninsula, a short 15 minute drive from
Maitland
and only 190km by road from Adelaide.
The town is the 'Last of the Windjammer Ports', and celebrated the Windjammer
50 festival weekend in 1999.
The town was first surveyed in 1839 and was named after the schooner
'Victoria'. Port Victoria was proclaimed on the 31st August 1876
Look for this colourful mural at the old Port Victoria Primary School on
the main road entering town.
Visit the Port Victoria Pub for a cold
schooner or for a hot meal. Either way, you'll get service with a
smile and a fabulous view of the foreshore.
If you're looking for more information on
Port Victoria's history, look no further than the foreshore.
Take time
to visit the Port Victoria Museum (Sundays and Public Holidays from
2-4pm) browse through the interpretive displays or pick up a brochure
from the Port Victoria Kiosk and take a walk along the Geology trail
on the foreshore.
The 5km trail is well marked and provides
a fascinating insight to the geological formation of the area.
The jetty offers great fishing, swimming,
and diving facilities. It was constructed in 1888, and at over 112
years old, it was one of the oldest original jetties in Australia.
